GREAT GRANDFATHER OF MUHAMMAD, QURAYSH TRIBE AND HUBAL THEIR GOD

KAABAH and MEKKAH TO ALL ISLAM!!

********************************************
WHO IS “Hashim ibn ‘Abd Manaf”?
********************************************
THE GREAT GRANDFATHER OR MUHAMMAD

Hashim ibn ‘Abd Manaf (Arabic: هاشم بن عبد مناف‎; ca. 464 – 497) was the great-grandfather of the Islamic prophet Muhammad and the progenitor of the Banu Hashim clan of the Quraish tribe in Mecca.

WHO ARE “Quraysh tribe”?
***********************************

The Quraysh (Arabic: قريش‎, Qurayš; other transliterations include Qureish, Quraish, Quresh, Qurish, Kuraish, and Coreish) were a [[[[[[[[powerful merchant tribe ]]]]] that [[[[[[controlled Mecca and its Ka’aba ]]]]] and that according to tradition descended from Ishmael.
Muhammad was born into the Banu Hashim clan of the Quraysh tribe.[1]
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quraysh_tribe

EARLY HISTORY BEFORE MUHAMMAD WAS BORN

According to Arabic history books, the Quraysh tribe was a branch of the Banu Kinanah tribe, which descended from the Mudhar. For several generations they were spread about among other tribal groupings.

FOCUS HERE!!

About five generations [[[[[[[before Muhammad ]]]]]]] the situation was changed by Qusai ibn Kilab. By war and diplomacy he assembled an alliance that delivered to him the keys of the [[[[[[[[[Kaaba, an important PAGAN SHRINE!!!!! which brought REVENUES!!!!! to Mecca ]]] [[[[[[ because of the multitude of pilgrims that it attracted.]]]]]]

He then gathered his fellow tribesmen to settle at Mecca, where he enjoyed such adulation from his kin that they adjudged him their de facto king, a position that was enjoyed by no other descendant of his. Different responsibilities were apportioned between different clans. [[[[[ There were some rivalries among the clans, and these became especially pronounced during Muhammad’s lifetime. ]]]]]

The Quaraysh’s main god was Hubal. According to The Oxford Handbook of Late Antiquity, “The Qurayshite pantheon was composed principally of idols that were in the Haram of Makka, that is, Hubal (the most important and oldest deity), Manaf, Isaf, and Na’ila.”[17]

Hubal (Arabic: هبل‎) was a god worshipped in pre-Islamic Arabia, notably at the Kaaba in Mecca. His idol was a human figure, believed to control acts of divination, which was in the form of tossing arrows before the statue. The direction in which the arrows pointed answered questions asked of the idol. The origins of the cult of Hubal are uncertain, but the name is found in inscriptions from Nabataea in northern Arabia (across the territory of modern Syria and Iraq). The specific powers and identity attributed to Hubal are equally unclear.

Access to the idol was controlled by the Quraysh tribe. The god’s devotees fought against followers of the Islamic prophetMuhammad during the Battle of Badr in 624 CE. After Muhammad entered Mecca in 630 CE, he removed the statue of Hubal from the Kaaba along with the idols of all the other pagan gods.

Hubal most prominently appears at Mecca, where an image of him was worshipped at the Kaaba. According to Karen Armstrong, the sanctuary was dedicated to Hubal, who was worshipped as the greatest of the 360 (LIMA NA LANG 365 DAYS ISANG TAON NA) idols the Kaaba contained, which probably represented the days of the year.[1]

After defeat by Muhammad’s forces at the Battle of Badr, Abu Sufyan ibn Harb, leader of the Quraysh army, is said to have called on Hubal for support to gain victory in their next battle, saying “Show your superiority, Hubal”. [5] When Muhammad conquered Mecca in 630, he removed and had destroyed the statue of Hubal, along with the other 360 images at the Kaaba, and re-dedicated the structure to Allah.[6]

Abbas was one of the [[[[[[ youngest brothers of Muhammad’s father]]]]]] Abd Allah ibn Abd al Muttalib, born only a few years before his nephew Muhammad (570 – 632). He became a wealthy merchant in Mecca. During the early years while the Muslim religion was gaining adherents, Abbas provided protection to his kinsman but did not adopt the faith. However, shortly after being a captive in the Battle of Badr he turned away from the Quraysh rulers and gave his support to Mohammad.[2]

He married Lubaba bint al-Harith (Arabic: لبابة بنت الحارث) also known as Umm al-Fadl. Umm al-Fadl claimed to be the second woman to convert to Islam, the same day as her close friend Khadijah bint Khuwaylid, the first wife of Muhammad. Umm al-Fadl’s traditions of the Prophet appear in all canonical collections of hadiths. She showed her piety by supernumerary fasting and by attacking Abu Lahab, the enemy of the Muslims, with a tent pole.[3]

His children by Umm al-Fadl were Al-Fadl, Abdullah, Ubaydullah, Quthum, Maabad, Umm Habib and Abuldrahman.[4] By other women, he was also the father of Al-Harith, Amina and Safiya.[5] After 632 he married a Jewish woman, Tukana,[6]Musliya, bore him his two youngest sons, Kathir and Tammam.[7]

Abdullah ibn Abdul-Muttalib (Arabic: عبدالله بن عبد المطلب‎) (545–570) was the father of the Islamic prophet Muḥammad. He was [[[[[the son of Shaybah ibn Hāshim (‘Abdul-Muttalib),]]]]]] and was married to Āminah bint Wahb.

MARRIAGE

His father chose for him Āminah daughter of Wahb ibn ‘Abd Munāf who was the grandson of Zuhrah, the brother of his great great grandfather Qusayy ibn Kilāb. Wahb had been the chief of Banū Zuhrah as well as its eldest and noblest member but had died some time previously and Āminah became a ward of his brother Wuhaib who had succeeded him as chief of the clan.

His father went with him to the quarter of Banū Zuhrah. There, he sought the residence of Wuhayb and went in to ask for the hand of Wahb’s daughter for his son. ‘Abdullāh’s father fixed his marriage with Aminah.[1] It was said that a light shone out of his forehead and that this light was the promise of a Prophet as offspring. Many Arabian women approached ‘Abdullāh, who is reported to have been a handsome man, so that they might gain the honor of producing his offspring. However it is believed that, as decided by God, the light was destined to be transferred to Āminah through ‘Abdullāh after consummating the marriage.[2] ‘Abdullāh’s father was the custodian of the Holy Ka’ba in Makkah. ‘Abdullāh lived with Āminah among her relatives the first three days of the marriage. Afterwards, they moved together to the quarter of ‘Abdul-Muttalib.

Hashim ibn ‘Abd Manaf (Arabic: هاشم بن عبد مناف‎; ca. 464 – 497) was the great-grandfather of the Islamic prophet Muhammad and the progenitor of the Banu Hashim clan of the Quraish tribe in Mecca.

His name was ‘Amr al-ʻUlā (Arabic: عمرو العلا‎) but he was given the nickname Hashim which translates as pulverizer in Arabic – because he initiated the practice of providing crumbled bread in broth for the pilgrims to the Ka’aba in Mecca. Another version of the story of this naming is that Hashim comes from the Arabic root Hashm, to save the starving, because he arranged for the feeding of the people of Mecca during a seasonal famine, and he thus became “the man who fed the starving” or in Arabic: هشم الجياع‎.

Hashim and ‘Abd Shams were conjoined twins born with Hashim’s leg attached to his twin brother’s head. It was said that they had struggled in the womb seeking to be firstborn. Their birth was remembered for Hashim’s being born with one of his toes pressed into the younger twin brother’s forehead. [[[[[[Legend says that their father, ‘Abd Manaf ibn Qusai, ]]]]] separated his conjoined sons with a sword and that some priests believed that the blood that had flown between them signified wars between their progeny (confrontations did occur between Banu al’Abbas and Banu Ummaya ibn ‘Abd Shams in the year 750 AH).[1]

[Qusai was born into the Quraysh tribe. His father was Kilab ibn Murrah who died when Qusai was an infant. According to Islamic tradition, he was a descendant of Ibrahim (Abraham) through his son Isma’il (Ishmael). His elder brother Zuhrah ibn Kilab was the progenitor of the Banu Zuhrah clan. LOOOL “Allah was the name of Muhammad’s father” is the worst thing I ever read. A person who knows just a little bit of Arabic knows that “ABD” means servant! Abd Allah means SERVANT OF GOD.
